AIRUSE STAKEHOLDERS MEETINGS

  • Stakeholders meeting in Valencia, 4-5 February 2016 “Urban Air Quality: Problems and possible solutions”. The Generalitat Valenciana, with the collaboration of the European Project AIRUSE organized this meeting on the improvement of the air quality in urban areas. Measures being developed by Spanish cities such as Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia, in their plans to improve air quality, were discussed. About 120 people attended the meeting
  • Stakeholders meeting in Florence, on February 25, 2016. AIRUSE members presented the conclusions on PM source apportionment, PM mitigation trials, and the consequent suggested measures to decrease PM in 5 Southern European cities (Porto, Barcelona, Milan, Florence and Athens) targeted to meet air quality standards and to approach, as much as possible, the WHO guidelines. About 80 people attended the meeting.
  • Stakeholders meeting in Athens, on December 15, 2015. Beneficiary NCSRD organised a consultation meeting to present of the results of AIRUSE and promote the exchange of views among stakeholders to improve the air quality in urban areas of southern Europe. The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Productive Reconstruction of Environment and Energy, the Region of Attica, the Association for Sustainable Development “21 OTA”, “Elliniki Etaireia” Greek Society for Environment and Cultural Heritage, the National Observatory of Athens and the PSG environmental exploration ltd. About 15 people attended the meeting.
  • On December 3, 2015 AIRUSE members presented to the regional government (Valencia) the conclusions on PM source apportionment, PM mitigation trials, and the consequent suggested measures to decrease PM in 5 Southern European cities (Porto, Barcelona, Milan, Florence and Athens) targeted to meet air quality standards and to approach, as much as possible, the WHO guidelines. 16 people attended the meeting.
  • On October 7, 2015, AIRUSE members presented, to Madrid City Council, the conclusions on PM source apportionment, PM mitigation trials, and the consequent suggested measures to decrease PM in 5 Southern European cities (Porto, Barcelona, Milan, Florence and Athens) targeted to meet air quality standards. 27 people attended the meeting.
  • On September 11, 2015, AIRUSE members explained the conclusions on PM source apportionment, PM mitigation trials, and the consequent suggested measures to decrease PM in 5 Southern European cities (Porto, Barcelona, Milan, Florence and Athens) targeted to meet air quality standards, to Milan stakeholders. 15 people attended the meeting.
  • On July 7, 2015, AIRUSE members explained the conclusions on PM source apportionment, PM mitigation trials, and the consequent suggested measures to the North Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-N) premisses, in Porto. The meeting was attended, not only by members of CCDR-N, but also from CCDR’s from other regions in Portugal (Centre region and Lisbon and Tagus Valley). Moreover, members from the Portuguese Environmental Agency (APA), from the ecologist association Quercus and from research groups from the University of Porto and University Fernando Pessoa also attended the meeting. In addition to 9 AIRUSE team members, 28 stakeholders were present.
  • On 23 - 24 April, 2015 X. Querol from the CB presented the results of AIRUSE to the air quality managers of Spain in the workshop entitled “Jornadas técnicas de gestores de la calidad del Aire”, Yacos de Yuste
  • On March 27, 2015 X. Querol and C. de Vasconcelos presented conclusions and recommendations from AIRUSE project, to Barcelona City Council.
  • On March 2, 2015 members of the CB presented the results of AIRUSE to the Catalan Department of Territory and Sustainability.
  • On February 24, 2015 X. Querol returned to the Ministry of Environment of Spain to present conclusions and recommendations from the project, received by Mr. Alberto Orio.
  • On November 5, 2014, F. Lucarelli from UNIFI, met with members of the Regional Government and of the Environmental Protection Agency of Tuscany, to present the results on the identification of the aerosol sources and their impact in Florence.
  • On October 30, 2014, Roy Harrison from UB attended a meeting in London at the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs, with the Chief Scientific Advisor and the Chair of DEFRA’s Science Advisory Council and was given the opportunity to explain the purpose and results of AIRUSE as part of a wider discussion relating to air quality issues. AIRUSE was discussed as an example of a highly policy-relevant research project with international significance.
  • On October 22, 2014, a meeting covering a number of separate topics was held by representatives of the Welsh Government and Natural Resources Wales (The Welsh Environment Agency), where Professor Roy Harrison had the opportunity to present results of AIRUSE as part of a wider discussion relating to air quality issues.
  • On December 17, 2014, Professor Roy Harrison from UB was invited to a reception at the House of Commons, London, where there were informal discussions on a number of environment and health issues. He had the opportunity to discuss AIRUSE results with several people from the government, industry and non-governmental organisations.
  • On the July 29, 2014, Professor Roy Harrison, from UB, explained the purpose and results of AIRUSE on a meeting held with a number of policymakers, all of whom are associated with an organization under the name of Environmental Protection UK, which is highly influential in government circles.
  • On April 24, 2014, F. Amato and A. Karanasiou from the CB and staff of several Departments of the City Hall of Barcelona (Dept. of Environmental Innovation and Quality and Dept. of Investments and Transport Networks) joined for the presentation of the results on the effectiveness of nanopolymer in reducing soil dust resuspension from urban public parks in Barcelona (Action B7). The rationale, methodology and main results of the study were presented.
  • On the 6th of February 2014, members of UAVR, Casimiro Pio, Márcio Duarte and Nuno Costa, met with responsible of national authorities (CCDR-N), António Vicente Araújo, at the air quality monitoring station of Antas (Oporto). An evaluation of the all campaign was done.
  • On February 11, 2014 Last February 11th a meeting of the London Pollution Group (LPG) took place in London. C. Holman from UB partner assisted as Vice Chair of the IAQM (Institute of Air Quality Management) and chair of a working group developing guidance for the assessment of construction impacts as part of the land use planning system The group members are the air quality/pollution control officers from the London Boroughs, and about 80 people attended.
