Actions The objectives of the project include the development of an integrated tool combining the following actions:

Actions

Achieved

A.1 Authorities and stakeholders consultation

2 meetings were done with the Spanish authorities and 1 in Italy, 1 in Portugal and 1 in Greece. The collaboration of the authorities was achieved

B.1 Documentation of the current status

Historical PM chemical composition data were collected and the main emission sources were catalogued

B.2 Harmonization of source apportionment  and determination of the contribution of the emission sources

The 1-year PM sampling campaigns, the chemical analysis and the source apportionment were completed on time. 5 training courses for the technical staff were done

B.3 Determination of the impact of biomass burning

The biomass burning emissions factors reported in the literature were compiled. The biomass burning tracers were identified. The emission factors from traditional appliances, a modern certified woodstove, a pellet stove, and a fluidised bed reactor were determined

B.4 Determination of the impact of natural sources

The measurements focused on African dust properties were conducted in Athens, Barcelona and Porto. The contribution of African dust and sea salt was completed on time.

B.6 Determination of the impact of traffic

Road dust results and traffic contribution was available for Barcelona. Road dust campaigns were conducted in Athens, Porto, Florence and Milan.

B.7 Testing of air mitigation measures

Three dust suppressants were tested: CMA, MgCl2 and nanopolymer material.
Seven fuels for biomass burning were tested.
More work was done on the evaluation of a nanopolymer and on biomass fuels.

B.8 Applicability of selected measures from Northern and Central to Southern Europe

10 reports were prepared

C.1 Effectiveness of the project actions

The PM daily values from the local networks in Athens, Barcelona, Florence, Porto and Milan were registered. Trends interpreted to detect effects of EU, National, Regional and Local actions.

C.2 Assess the socio-economic effect

A report on the socio-economic impact of the project was prepared on time.
