This scientific meeting aims at bringing together experts on the evaluation of African dust contributions to air quality impairment over Southern Europe. The goal is to discuss the methodologies available to quantitatively report on daily contributions of this natural emission source to ambient PMx recorded by the air quality monitoring stations. This is of relevance to adequately implement the EU Air Quality Directive (2008/50/CE). Furthermore, and given the results shown by the epidemiology experts, these methodologies are relevant to adequately evaluate the health effects of African dust outbreaks over Europe. Possible protocols to convey to the most vulnerable population specific measures to reduce exposure to PM will be discussed.
