On 25 and 26 June 2013, the conference “New measures to improve air quality and atmospheric protection” was held in Santander, under the direction of Xavier Querol, a member of the AIRUSE coordinating partner IDAEA, who presented preliminary project data.
Plans to improve air quality have become the main tool to reduce the levels of air pollutants in areas that have identified exceedances of the thresholds set out in European legislation. In recent years plans have been launched in many cities and regions of Europe comprising measures of various kinds and scope.
The main objective of this conference is the presentation of the National Plan to Improve Air Quality and Atmosphere Protection 2013-2016, AIR Plan, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA) in order to implement effective measures to improve air quality and comply with legal obligations. The steps of that plan, will also be presented as well as the main opportunities and challenges in the field of air quality.
Also, technical sessions will be held on issues relating to the improvement of air quality, where experts, scientists and managers will share experiences that include aspects such as the proposed new measures, evaluation of existing plans and measures, tools for improving air quality and future challenges in this field.
