PRESENTATION
The atmospheric pollution in the cities is an important risk factor in the development of respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses. These adverse effects increase every year the number of hospitalisations and premature deaths of babies.

Thanks to the increasing awareness, to breakthroughs in research and to consequent environmental policies, during the last decade, air quality has improved substantially. However, critical levels of pollutants still persist in Spain as well as in the rest of Europe.

This seminar, addressed to secondary schools teaching staff, aims to raise awareness of a key social sector, through technical/scientific evidence.

Organisation coordinated with the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya) and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – http://gcice.upc.edu/fitxa_cursos.asp?id=53539&np=1

OBJECTIVES
1. Improving the teaching staff knowledge about questions that affect the air quality and its relationship with the quality of life.

2. Disseminating the project’s results and its proposals

3. Making evident the key role of teachers in the environmental education

4. Discussing instruments and examples to transfer this knowledge at the classrooms.
